I have started reading the Spanish one. It’s excellent. It really captures the essence of the conflict. The Russian one was very focused on the actual fighting. At least that’s how I remember it, since the last time I read it was in 2005 or 2004. Why do I do it? Even after all these years I still enjoy it. There is not much I can still learn about the war, but reading about it in a foreign language makes the experience like putting a puzzle together. This Spanish one is a real treat. To read yet another book about the conflict in English would still not be boring, but I wouldn’t be learning anything. It would be self-indulgent.
