Psychotherapist Katherine Schafler says there are four questions we unconsciously ask ourselves when we are with people. She says she picked these up from Maya Angelou.

Here are the 4 critical questions:

1 Do you see me?

2 Do you care that I’m here?

3 Am I enough for you, or do you need me to be better in some way?

4 Can I tell that I’m special to you by the way that you look at me?

Think about it. A lot of our interactions suddenly get much clearer subtitles, don’t they?

This reminds me of an other summary of what we do as people when we interact with others.

Everything we do is either a cry for love or an act of love.

Yes, everything.
