So I’ve been reading up on the benefits of drinking water. From time to time we all bump into articles proclaming how beneficial it is to increase our intake of H²O.

It’s often claimed that drinking between 2 and 4 liters of water per day will lead to:

  • weight loss
  • decreased appetite
  • better skin
  • better sleep
  • better mental fitness, better concentration, better focus
  • ridding the body of toxins
  • slimmer waist
  • the vanishing of those dark circles round your eyes
  • saving some money, since water is cheaper than other drinks

I’ve only been doing this for a week, and so far I’m only noticing this:

  • I sleep a lot longer because I went cold turkey on caffeine, since I drink not a drop of coffee or tea
  • My wife claims I’ve lost some weight
  • I eat less
  • I enjoy drinking water better than before, given other options I always reached for something else than water
  • cheaper bills in restaurants and bars, because I don’t want to order more than one glass of sparkling water (why pay 2 euro for a glass of water??)
  • I feel like my body is still adapting to not having any caffeine coming in, neither through coffee nor tea, so I’m tired most of the time
  • A little less anxiety, since caffeine increases your adrenaline and puts you in fight or flight mode
  • I haven’t noticed any of the other benefits, but I suppose one week is not enough to see any real results

I’m curious what will happen in a month
