So I’ve been reading up on the benefits of drinking water. From time to time we all bump into articles proclaming how beneficial it is to increase our intake of H²O.
It’s often claimed that drinking between 2 and 4 liters of water per day will lead to:
- weight loss
- decreased appetite
- better skin
- better sleep
- better mental fitness, better concentration, better focus
- ridding the body of toxins
- slimmer waist
- the vanishing of those dark circles round your eyes
- saving some money, since water is cheaper than other drinks
I’ve only been doing this for a week, and so far I’m only noticing this:
- I sleep a lot longer because I went cold turkey on caffeine, since I drink not a drop of coffee or tea
- My wife claims I’ve lost some weight
- I eat less
- I enjoy drinking water better than before, given other options I always reached for something else than water
- cheaper bills in restaurants and bars, because I don’t want to order more than one glass of sparkling water (why pay 2 euro for a glass of water??)
- I feel like my body is still adapting to not having any caffeine coming in, neither through coffee nor tea, so I’m tired most of the time
- A little less anxiety, since caffeine increases your adrenaline and puts you in fight or flight mode
- I haven’t noticed any of the other benefits, but I suppose one week is not enough to see any real results
I’m curious what will happen in a month
If water can help me get rid of my cough, give me more energy to get more work done, and put me in a better mood, then I would drink as much water as necessary.
