Americans are prepped from early childhood to embrace a fake founding myth, so when the Israeli myth comes along, they’re ready for it. The American Revolution was a power grab by wealthy colonial elites, some of them slave holders, who wanted to free themselves from British interference, expand their own wealth and authority, and sold the project to ordinary people as a glorious struggle for universal liberty.

Today Americans seem to embrace it as proof that they’re destined to throw off foreign yokes, oppression and that they are ever freedom loving, entirely free to pay off their debts, doing any jobs they can find. Sometimes while living out of their beater car. Always one unfortunate event away from being completely destitute. With the middle class being slightly more productive than say Italians, but with poorer health, way fewer holidays, far less maternity leave and on average far fewer meaningful social connections.

Throw in a few massacres against the natives and incarcerating blacks and other ‘others’ and Israel starts looking like the perfect kindred spirit.

Hopefully that relationship will break as more Americans realize what George Carlin said decades ago:

‘It’s called the American dream cause you have to be asleep to believe it.’
