Israel as a tool to prevent the rise of a daunting regional force, a united Levant.
The west doesn’t support Israel because of any special love for Jews, in fact if the west HAD loved them there would never have been any talk of any need for safe land reserved for Jews.
This is part of what triggers many of us so much: the shameless posturing of western officialdom that they are friends of some religion, instead of admitting how much they benefit.
Plus, having the newly arrived Jews Europe did not want drive out the locals makes the whole project extremely unsafe for Jews, as some of the most moral and brightest Jews are always the first to point out.
Israel serves many purposes as a node in the western military industrial complex, the financial world, business world and abnormally tight political relationships, not to mention a bizarre role as the west’s thought police in academia, media and entertainment.Tiny Israel is propped up with billions in aid and beneficial deals, without which it would soon become untenable.
Almost a century a small club of western white men literally drew a few lines in the sand and created states out of the blue, then for decades played a dirty role in keeping them weak and divided, often under the guise of promoting democracy (something the US doesn’t even have itself, it has more overlapping features with oligarchies).
Do you think the west would be happy if tomorrow Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Palestine, Iraq and maybe others would declare a unified nation?
It could be the world’s most progressive democracy and the west would hate it.No wonder that Israel routinely bombs Lebanon, Palestine and Iraq and the media never condemn this with the vehemence it reserves even for supposed plane hijackings which result in no casualties.
This is not to say there are no divisions between all the above mentioned countries, but they’d conceivably be easier to unite into one shared cultural and political sphere than even the European Union.Local rich elites prefer this status quo, along with the west and along with Israel.
A united Levantian Union isn’t going to happen any time soon, but that such a possibility is not far fetched adds to our understanding of what Israel is for.Given how impossibly immoral and unhinged Israel has become there must be gigantic reasons to tolerate its despicable never ending string of atrocities in the eyes of anyone with some power.
Tolerance of Israel also exposes how the west only has pretend democracies because most citizens in the west do not support this outrageous carnage, though they care little about it and find it easy to distract themselves in between fighting to maintain some mediocre living standards.
