Something can snap Something happened to Michael and Sarah. Something happened to Michael and Sarah and then a few years later they blew a hole in a wall with explosives they had prepared themselves. An operation they and others had trained for over the course of several years.
Something happened to Michael and Sarah and then one day they sat in a house and calmly, and in as friendly a tone as the highly unusual situation allowed, explained to the official owners of the house why they had to leave and come with Michael and Sarah. They would be treated humanely, but they had to come quickly, before their own government would shoot them. The longer they waited the more likely that scenario became. Something happened to Michael and Sarah and then one day they fed people to whom what had happened to Michael and Sarah could never happen. They kept them alive and protected them as best they could from the bombs raining down on their part of town. Bombs sent by their government, not Michael’s or Sarah’s leadership, a leadership they didn’t choose to represent them anyway.
They apologized for what they were doing and explained why this was the only way to release thousands of young people wasting away in the prisons on the other side of the wall. They tried as best they could to treat them the way they would treat welcome guests. They were not guests, but they tried to treat them as such. Fairly quickly a bond was formed between them and they got along quite fine in this highly unusual setting. When the people they treated well, but definitely held entirely against their will, were indeed swapped, they all said: ‘we’re deeply sorry for your loss’ to Michael and Sarah.
Michael and Sarah lost a miracle baby. They had a baby boy in 2015. They had been told conceiving would be almost certainly impossible with Sarah’s anatomy. When they had already accepted their childless fate they discovered Sarah was pregnant. She was in awful pain for nine months, but she gave birth to a very healthy looking boy. By the time he was two everyone commented on how handsome the boy was.
As a result of her miracle pregnancy Sarah’s uterus and ovaries had to be removed. Sarah didn’t mind, she was too happy celebrating the birth of Christopher. When you are told you will never have children one unexpected child becomes the equivalent of 1,000 children. Christopher died when a blockade of Michael’s and Sarah’s area made it impossible for Christopher to get the proper treatment for his leukemia when he was three.
Some things happen to some people and then it gets hard for some other people to judge their actions later.
