Teaching kids how to win and lose graciously. It’s not easy but yes, it is rewarding.
The youngest has unexpectedly beaten the oldest via quite a cunning ruse. The eldest claims this was only possible because of one illegitimate move, but the jury – yours truly – disagrees. The jury doesn’t want to piss anybody off, but the verdict stands.
Soon 80 games pieces are flying all over the room, but it all ends with a conciliatory hug.
With a sigh of relief the teacher moves on to his next class of the day.
Thinking about when he was 9 or so and physically attacked an opponent who unexpectedly defeated him at this very same game. I have evolved into a very non-violent person ever since.
When you think kids today are out of control think about how you behaved at their age.
They’re angels.
