From the moment the big donors kicked Biden to the curb and switched him out for Harris the majority of journalists, also in Europe, threw their weight behind Harris who is more palatable to them. She and Waltz could let the US waltz over its own working class citizens, and countries which stand in the way of the US empire, with some decorum, with nice words, with some expressions here and there some people only pick up if they spent some time in college.

She appealed to ‘our better angels’. Journalists could fawn over her, quote from a Lincoln speech, show they had read a book in their time.
Journalists embraced Trump in 2016 because he was great for clicks and more fun to report on, but after 8 years of Trump being Trump things got very boring. The entertaining anomaly had become a drag and they wanted someone like them.

Harris was someone journalists, who often feel like they have to educate people and pull them up to their imagined level, could get behind. There was and is Trump fatigue among journalists who feel forced to report on all his antics and never ending, but seemingly irrelevant courtroom sagas.

So we saw them act as a monolithic block to promote Harris. She couldn’t do anything wrong. Suddenly someone who was barely known, even though she had been the VP for four years, was served up as the saviour of democracy. They now lamented the rise of Trump, something they themselves were responsible for by massively overreporting on him in 2016, while almost freezing Bernie out entirely, even though he was drawing huge crowds. Journalists gave an entertainment star a megaphone and then eventually got tired of him.

So the media drums beat Harris, joy, Harris, joy, Harris optimism, Harris, hope, Harris, new wind, Harris, joy. No mind that especially since 2016, but even long before that, people have been discovering that the Democratic party doesn’t stand for anything it claims to stand for, other than maybe support Israel, abortion rights and LGBTQ rights. This is not a party that fights for working class Americans. It is one of the main reasons why so many people vote for the Republicans. The Democrats are such hypocrites and so addicted to putting on a ‘I feel your pain’ show and ‘we are the goodies’ that they are the only ones who can make the openly rapacious and hateful Republicans look like the ones with an actual plan.

The media spectacle was cringe, it was obnoxious, inauthentic. We were bombarded with pictures of Harris and Waltz smiling to the point they started looking like creepier and decidedly dumber, less magnetic versions of the Joker. We saw activism masked as journalism. We saw mainstream musicians prove that music as a protest form like in the sixties is dead.
We were bombarded with a joy so misplaced it became an insult, especially since the Biden-Harris administration kept pooping out bombs for Israel to shred kids into little pieces.

In the face of very weak opposition and in a time when lots of people are hurting an outsider vowing to clean house can rise to the top.
The Democrats have, for decades, helped to start the fire of neoliberal wealth gap hell, the fire of a society turned into little more than a rat race for everyone to try and make some money, to the detriment of the social fabric, almost everyone’s mental and physical health and most of what allows people to have a happy life.

Now people have turned to kerosene to try and put out the fire. Neoliberal hell is quite hot under Democratic rule, now it will be even hotter under Republican rule.

The yearly death toll of opioid overdoses will rise, the number of millionaires will rise, anxiety levels will soar, people will have even less time to devote to a real social network around them, cause they will be struggling to make ends meet, those with the skill set to exploit their fellow men and women will thrive, greater Israel will be allowed to kill, kill, kill.

You know, just like under the Democrats, but without the rainbow ribbon
